between Art, Sea and Major Events
If you are looking for the ideal time to visit Venice, mark September and October in your diary. With milder temperatures and fewer tourists than during the high season, these months allow you to fully enjoy the wonders of the lagoon city without having to worry about stifling heat or bad weather. It is also the perfect time to immerse yourself in the numerous cultural events that extend the Venetian summer, including celebrities, exhibitions and artists from all over the world.
Staying in Lido di Venezia, you can start your day with a regenerating dip in the waters of the city’s renowned beach. Here, you can relax in the fresh air, perhaps enjoying a seafront breakfast under the sun, before exploring the cultural attractions the city has to offer. From the Lido, a leap between culture and leisure is at hand, guaranteeing the perfect mix of relaxation and discovery.
Exhibitions and the Biennale: a journey to the heart of culture
For culture enthusiasts, Venice during this period is a veritable hotbed of unmissable events:
‘The Worlds of Marco Polo. Il viaggio di un mercante veneziano del Duecento’ (until 29 September) celebrates the 700th anniversary of the death of the famous Venetian traveller, with an exhibition retracing the journey of one of the greatest explorers ever.
Biennale di Arte (until 24 November), hosted at the Giardini, the Arsenale and various venues around the city, focuses this year on migrant artists, exploring the lives of those who have crossed the border between the South and the North of the world, making art a lens on the condition of exile and diaspora.
Homo Faber 2024 (until 20 September) at the Giorgio Cini Foundation, offers a glimpse into global craftsmanship. Here, you can admire hundreds of unique objects handmade by artisans from all over the world.
The Venice Glass Week (until 22 September), the festival dedicated to the art of glass, celebrates one of the city’s oldest and most precious traditions, attracting internationally renowned artists and craftsmen.
The month of October is lit up with music and regattas, events that find a unique setting in the Venetian lagoon:
Venice Hospitality Challenge, the regatta reserved for maxi yachts, returns on 19 October 2024 for its 11th edition. This spectacular event is the only competition in the world to be held entirely in the internal waters of a city.
Veleziana, a classic regatta organised by the Compagnia della Vela, will be held on 20 October 2024. The uniqueness of this event lies in its evocative route, which takes the boats with unfurled sails directly into St Mark’s Basin, offering a breathtaking spectacle.
68th International Festival of Contemporary Music (26 September – 11 October 2024), under the direction of Lucia Ronchetti, offers a rich calendar of events with international soloists and ensembles. The Biennale College Musica will further enrich the offer with training activities and concerts.
Whether you love culture, the sea or exclusive events, Venice in September and October will not disappoint your expectations. This is a city that never ceases to amaze, especially when the influx of tourists wanes and the most authentic soul of the Serenissima returns.
