Porto Santo Stefano

Argentario’s renowned tourist destination

Porto Santo Stefano

Porto Santo Stefano, a popular tourist destination on Monte Argentario, consists of a large marina, from which the main ferries to the famous islands of Giglio and Giannutri depart, and fishing boats where fresh fish can be purchased every morning.

Definitely a seaside village that is worth a visit and will allow you to enjoy a nice walk along the seafront or through the narrow streets inside until you reach the Spanish Fortress; built at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries in a dominant position in the centre of the city. The fortress occupies the location of a Sienese tower and performed important defensive functions against attacks from the sea for several centuries.
Following the Via Panoramica, which goes around the Argentario and connects Porto Santo Stefano to Porto Ercole, you will find the most beautiful and picturesque beaches of the coastline.

he first of these beaches is Cala del Gesso, considered by many to be the most beautiful in Argentario.
A little further south you will find the beach of Cala Piccola not far from this cove is a shoal that lends itself to diving and snorkelling.
Continuing further you will find the Dead Sea beach, where there are some small natural pools that have formed between the rocks. Among the beaches closer to the town are La Cantoniera, ideal for a dip from the rocks, and La Bionda, which is appreciated for the tranquillity of its waters.
The sea here is the undisputed star of the scene. It is a spectacular, limpid sea with a wonderful coastline alternating between sheer cliffs and low sandy beaches where you can lie in the sun and enjoy the view. The undeniable natural beauty of these places and the excellence of these beaches is testified to every year by the Legambiente Blue Flag.
