Tombolo and Feniglia Wildlife Reserve

A protected natural area

Tombolo and Feniglia Wildlife Reserve

The Tombolo di Feniglia connects the hill of Ansedonia to the east and Monte Argentario to the west. It is about 6 km long with a total surface area of 474 hectares.
From Orbetello, it can be reached by means of the grand-ducal dam, while from Ansedonia it can be accessed by taking the Aurelia state road and then turning onto the municipal road that derives from it.

The Duna Feniglia Nature Reserve, this is its real name, is a state protected natural area established in 1971. The beach is wild and strikingly beautiful. The golden sand, the wide sandy shore set among the pine forest, the dunes and the crystal clear sea make this area one of the most beautiful in the Tuscan Maremma.

To fully enjoy the nature and solitude, it is necessary to go further inland where a long path crossing the entire tombolo is accessible both on foot and by bicycle.
Immersed in a marvellous natural landscape of rare beauty made up of Mediterranean scrub, rare grasses and pine trees, it is not uncommon to encounter the reserve’s animals such as fallow deer, foxes, weasels and skunks along the way. There are also countless birdwatching spots.
At both ends of the tombolo are bathing establishments with refreshments and convenient parking facilities.
