Porto Ercole, called one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, is a small fishing village that was long under Spanish rule.
As soon as you arrive, you come to the new town known mainly for its marina, which offers a wide choice of places where you can enjoy an excellent aperitif or meal while admiring the sea and the small boats moored there.
Continuing on, at the foot of the Spanish fortress lies the old town where we recommend a stroll through the alleys and typical small squares from which one can only hear the song of the seagulls and the music of the sea, a plunge into the past of the fishing village.
The towers and forts of Argentario
There are endless examples of military architecture in Monte Argentario, which was first dominated by the Sienese Republic and then by the Spanish.
The fortresses of Forte Filippo, Forte Stella and La Rocca were built by the Spanish in the 16th century to defend Porto Ercole.
