The Venice Historical Regatta

is one of the city’s most emblematic and spectacular events.

It takes place annually on the first Sunday in September, attracting the attention of residents and tourists alike. This year, the next edition will take place on 1 September 2024, with a series of side events that further enrich this centuries-old tradition.
This event not only celebrates Venetian tradition and culture, but also offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the history and life of the city!

Preparatory Events:

Disnar per la Storica (Friday 23 August): A convivial occasion where Venetians gather to share food and drink in public places. During the day, rowing trials open to the public will be held, with the participation of prominent athletes. The evening will be dedicated to promoting rowing crews and activities, with screenings of historical films and presentations by sponsors.
Benedizione dei gondolini (Thursday 29 August): Presentation ceremony and blessing of the crews and boats, with a water parade along the Grand Canal culminating at the Chiesa della Salute.

Programme of the Historical Regatta (Sunday 1 September):

3.15 p.m. – Historical parade: An exhibition of historical boats along the Grand Canal, re-enacting Caterina Cornaro’s welcome in 1489.
4.00 pm – Regata delle Maciarele e delle Schie: Regattas dedicated to the youngest, with different categories according to age, competing along stretches of the Grand Canal.
4.30 pm – Regata delle giovanissime su Mascarete a due omi: A competition between young athletes on mascarete, from Giardini Napoleonici to Ca’ Foscari.
4.50 pm – Regata dei giovanissimi su pupparini a due omi: Race between youngsters on pupparini, starting from Bacino San Marco.
5.10pm – Regata delle caorline a sei omi (six-oared boats): Traditional race with six-oared boats, along the Grand Canal.
5.10pm – International Rowing Challenge of the Universities: Competition between university crews, from Rialto to Ca’ Foscari.
5.40 p.m. – Women’s regatta on two-oared mascarete: Women’s race on mascarete along the Grand Canal.
6.10 pm – Two-oared gondolini regatta: The main event of the day, with the best rowers competing in an exciting race along the Grand Canal.
