A sea of Posidonia
Nature’s unconditional love amazes us. We want to declare it to her, forever.
Posidonia oceanica is a marine plant endemic to the Mediterranean Sea and fundamental to the marine ecosystem. Belonging to the Posidoniaceae family, this plant forms veritable underwater prairies that cover vast seabeds down to a depth of around 40 metres and produce oxygen through photosynthesis, improving water quality and providing shelter and nourishment for numerous marine species.
This is a story of gratitude for a special place to which Mother Nature has reserved all her energies. Talamone, a pearl of rare beauty, is a picturesque port set on wild cliffs overlooking the sea, embraced by the Uccellina Natural Park and crystal-clear sea. The fascinating bay is affected all year round by the winds that have made it one of the most popular Italian water sports. Its special ecological characteristics are due to the presence of communities of terrestrial and aquatic plants and fauna that make the environmental quality very high.
Here the sea is in bloom: the Posidonia meadow, not a seaweed but an aquatic plant with roots, leaves and flowers, naturally protects our coastline from erosion by strong winds and tides with the swinging of its leaves. It carefully slows down wave movements, like a true barrier, and is a natural bio-indicator of excellent water quality, because it only grows in healthy, unspoilt ecosystems, keeping them pure.
Consciously considering the culture of the sea means loving it and understanding it, thanking it and respecting it. The underwater ecosystem, which we can admire enraptured here thanks to activities for all such as snorkelling, is populated by ancient plants and extraordinary creatures that work synergistically for life. Our Posidonia purifies it by producing incredible amounts of oxygen and protects the fauna by housing it among its leaves. It lives protecting everything and everyone, including the beach where we daydream kissed by the sun, in front of water that, still thanks to it, is crystal clear.
