Montalto di Castro, located on a tuff stone spur to the left of the Fiora River, and 4 km from the Tyrrhenian coast, was founded in the 5th century A.D. It is on this high plain where the city’s historic downtown stands, from which you can admire its small Medieval streets with arches, walls and small squares. During the last 30 years, Montalto di Castro has undergone remarkable development from the economic as well as demographic points of view: agricultural and summer and cultural tourism are its main resources. Just a few kilometers from historic downtown, we find Montalto Marina, the heart of lively Montalto summers. The wide, sandy beaches, the vast pine forests, and the functional hotels render this an ideal place to vacation. In the evening, the town of Montalto Marina comes to life, thanks to numerous clubs, ice cream shops, and restaurants which render an evening stroll an enjoyable experience. Ideal for families, this stretch of the coast is an excellent attraction even for kids.
