During the Christmas season, Rome transforms into an enchanted city: its monuments become the backdrop for sparkling lights, the squares are filled with the scent of roasted chestnuts and cinnamon sweets, and every corner tells stories of tradition, art, and magic.
✨ In 2025 as well, the Capital offers a rich calendar of events to experience all the wonder of the holidays:
– From 29 November 2025 to 11 January 2026, the large park of Villa Borghese hosts Christmas World, a Christmas village covering over 40,000 sqm with attractions, shows, ice-skating rinks, and craft and international stalls. Light installations, concerts, and activities make the experience suitable for both children and adults. The event is usually open every day from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, with last entry around 7:00 pm; advance booking is recommended for shows and family packages.
– Piazza Navona Christmas Market (In the Baroque heart of the city, the famous Befana market returns with craft stalls, traditional sweets, nativity scenes, toys, and the characteristic vintage carousel. It takes place from 1 December 2025 to 6 January 2026, with opening hours spread throughout the day and into the late evening, offering moments of Christmas shopping, hot chocolate, and festive music.)
– Ice-skating rinks: During the holidays, various “IcePark” rinks and skating installations open in squares, parks, and shopping centres throughout the city. They are perfect for a fun break between cultural visits and often remain open until the first days of January.
– Events in theme parks: Cinecittà World and other amusement parks offer themed shows, illuminated sets, and Christmas-dedicated attractions, ideal for families and younger visitors.
✨ Widespread villages and markets
In addition to Piazza Navona and Villa Borghese, Christmas in Rome also features markets in other areas:
– Christmas Village at EUR (Viale America) with over 100 wooden chalets, attractions, and lights, from 1 to 26 December 2025, generally open from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm.
– Piazza Mazzini Market (Prati), 1–30 December, with handmade products and live music (approximately 9:00 am–7:30 pm).
– Small markets in Via Ugo Ojetti (8–26 December) and in other neighbourhoods, perfect for original gift ideas.
✨ Atmosphere, music, and folklore
Beyond the markets, December in Rome is filled with Christmas concerts, artistic nativity scenes, and family-friendly shows in venues such as the Auditorium Parco della Musica and historic squares. The city lights up with artistic decorations along Via del Corso, Piazza di Spagna, and the Tridente area, creating a festive route ideal for evening strolls.
✨ Flavours of the holidays
At the markets and along the streets of the historic centre, you can taste traditional sweets such as torrone and panettone, enjoy mulled wine, and accompany your festive walks with the flavours of Roman cuisine, from classic dishes to street-food specialties.
Rome brings together millennia of history, art, popular traditions, and modern celebrations in a single experience: a Christmas to be enjoyed with all the senses.
