1. Waiting for sunrise by canoe on the Ombrone River
• The alarm goes off early: departure is scheduled for around 5:00 am, although the exact time may vary slightly depending on sunrise. But as soon as you start paddling, you understand why it’s worth it.

• The excursion takes place in the Maremma Regional Park, departing from La Barca, near Alberese. For around 3 hours, you navigate the Ombrone River accompanied by a guide as the sun rises behind the inland hills.
• At this time of day, the river is especially quiet and, with a little luck, you may spot
roe deer and wild boar crossing the water, as well as the many bird species living along the riverbanks.

• The experience is also ideal for photography lovers: a guide and binoculars are included in the price.
Duration: around 3 hours
Departure: around 5:00 am
Price: €35 per person
Where: La Barca, Alberese

2. Collelungo and Castel Marino: into the heart of the Park
• For those who prefer walking, the Maremma Park offers an itinerary through some of the protected area’s most representative landscapes.

• The route passes through the Ombrone plain, the Uccellina Mountains and the coast, reaching the ancient coastal towers and including a stop at the beach.

• From the most panoramic points, the view stretches as far as the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago. The trail is around 12 km long, has a medium level of difficulty and takes approximately 6 hours, including the seaside stop.

• In August 2026, the excursion is available on several dates in the Park’s official calendar.
Meeting time: 8:45 am
Departure: 9:00 am
Return: around 3:00 pm
Duration: 6 hours
Distance: 12 km
Price: €15 full price | €10 reduced for children up to 14 and students under 25
Where: Alberese Visitor Centre, Via del Bersagliere 7/9
How to book: the Park recommends booking by writing to booking@parco-maremma.it
3. Sunset aperitif by boat in front of Cala di Forno
• Some places in the Park become even more beautiful when seen from the sea. Cala di Forno is one of them.
Maremma Escursioni offers a boat trip departing from Talamone at 6:30 pm, heading towards one of the wildest bays of the Maremma Park.
• To protect the natural environment, the boat does not reach the beach directly, but stays a short distance offshore. From here, you can swim and admire Cala di Forno as the sun starts to set.
• On board, wine, drinks and snacks are served, turning sunset into a small aperitif suspended between sea and Mediterranean scrub.
Departure: 6:30 pm
Duration: around 2 hours
Departure point: Port of Talamone
Price: €75 per person | free for children aged 0–3
Participants: maximum 8; departure guaranteed with at least 4 participants
How to book: via “Book Tour” on the Maremma Escursioni website or by calling +39 338 164 55 09
4. Orbetello Lagoon as evening falls
• As the sun begins to set, the Orbetello Lagoon becomes one of the most atmospheric places along the Maremma coast.

• Guided visits to the WWF Orbetello Lagoon Oasis allow you to explore the lagoon with expert guides, moving between observation points, trails and birdwatching areas.

• Late afternoon is one of the best times to visit: depending on the season, you may spot herons, black-winged stilts, flamingos and many other bird species.

• The main reference point for visits is the Casale della Giannella, in the Orbetello area, where activities are organised and directions to the Oasis are provided.

Where: Casale della Giannella / Orbetello Lagoon
Recommended: closed shoes and binoculars
How to book: visits must be booked directly through the official contacts of the WWF Orbetello Lagoon Oasis
