Porto Santo Stefano is the other sea town of the Argentario Promontory, town hall of Monte Argentario, harbourand ferry terminal for the Isles of Giglio and Giannutri. It is certainly worth a visit: take a stroll along the seafront, enjoy a drink at sunset or see the Mediterranean Aquarium.
Since 1937, every August Bank Holiday (Italian Ferragosto) it takes place the Sea Palio in Porto Santo Stefano.
It is a regatta which puts into competition 4 boats which represent the four town districts: Fortezza, Pilarella, Croce and Valle.
The sea, the promontory’s colours, the hard life of the fishermen and sailors, the hopes of those who wait for them by the shore, are well represented by the fatigue of the four crews and the choral participation of the districts’ inhabitants.
