The Tombolo della Giannella is located to the north of Monte Argentario and is a 6 km strip of land that from there arrives at the mouth of the Albenga river. It is crossed by the Strada Provinciale 36 di Giannella, reachable to the east by the Strada Statale Aurelia taking the Albinia exit and to the west by the Strada Statale 440 di Porto Santo Stefano. A dense and splendid pine forest runs the entire length of the Giannella, beyond which lies as sandy beach full of accesses to the sea. Bars, restaurants and beach resorts are all over the beaches, leaving however, long stretches of free beaches. The shallow waters and the slow sloping beaches render the beaches accessible and safe for kids. Protected from the Sirocco wind, Giannella is exposed to the north winds such as the Mistral and the Tramontane which renders it the perfect beach for sailing sports. The presence of the dunes, piles of sand located near the pine forest, colonized by typical plants such as Marine Chamomile, the beach’s Bermuda grass, or the sea lily make this beach a typical scene of the Maremma seaside. Don’t miss visiting the Casale Spagnolo and the Forte delle Saline, typical Spanish fortresses of the ancient Stato dei Presidi.
